Some bloggers say don't write often but give your best content while others say that you should write more often to get good Google results in order to earn money from blogging. Who is right? Both of them are right.
I don't follow the successful bloggers so strictly because things have changed since they started and became successful and internet has changed too. Seth Godin can publish a post every minute. It can work for him but not for you.
Each of your posts should resonate with your target audience and impact their lives somehow and when it does, these very people will share your knowledge over the water cooler and then you will see your fan following rising exponentially.
Make your schedule, experiment with it. Some bloggers publish daily, some weekly and some monthly. You have to find your groove that feels right.
It all depends on your topic and on your audience. Lets look at frequencies of various blogs based on their categories-
Fashion / Design / Picture Blogs
The top blogs average 5 posts/week because mostly blog posts are pictures with very less written content and people can browse through a post in few minutes.
Conclusion: If your blog posts consists of mostly pictures and less text, then you should consider blogging more often.
SEO Tip: Don't forget to add alt text to your pictures.
SEO / Marketing / Tips Blogs
The average posts / week come out to be 4 but this includes guest bloggers. What I have seen from trends is that if you have guest bloggers publish one post/week and 3-4 guest blog posts.
If you don't, publish 1 - 2 small posts and 1 big analysis post per week.
SEO Tip: Use social networking and email marketing if you blog falls in this category as they are not only major traffic sources but email marketing is also the major converting source.
Mom / Cooking Blogs
These category blogs publish lots of post probably because their users are always looking for something new and are more like fan followers who visit many times a day.
If you are planning to start a mom or cooking blog, I would suggest using pictures and videos to interact with you audience. Once you start getting a decent fan following, you can increase the number of posts dynamically based on the reaction you are getting.
Tech / Gadget Blogs
SEO Tip: If your blog falls under this category, make sure you allow guest posts or have budget to hire your own employees. You need more posts since the niche is really large and people interested in all sorts of technology will be visiting your blog and if they don't find updated content for the kind of tech they are looking for then you will lose potential readers.
This is not the final list. If you want me to add any more categories then comment below.
